How to beat the first boss on Lego Indiana Jones 2?

The guy is spinning around on some sort of vehicle. We can't get on the vehicle to get him. He has three health hearts. All that is left in the room is two ons to stand on to ignite the jet on his vehicle, and I thought it would shoot his vehicle through the wall...but it's not. We have no clue what to do, we have been stuck for an hour, and I've completely had it. Anyone beat him? How? Thanks
