Does alcohol have a negative effect on muscle growth?

Recently I've gotten into the habit of blasting Gaelic Storm and drinking a bunch of whiskey after my day is done (Johnny Tarr!). However I have the feeling this is going to interfere with my workout process, but I haven't noticed any diminishment of strength and I've added 10 pounds to my shoulder press in this past week. Any thoughts?
